Plans for New North Dakota Governor’s Residence Move Forward
(KFYRTV.com) The planning committee has been named and the architect has been found to build the new governors residence. The committee and architect met Thursday for the first time to discuss the first steps on building the new residence.
Friday afternoon the planning process began to raze the current ranch style home.
Chris Hawley Architects from Fargo will be building the new home. Two members from the Senate and two from the House have been named as part of the bipartisan planning committee.
“The senators are Ms. Joanne Heckaman and Mr. Howard Anderson. The House members are Mr. Kenton Onstad and Mr. Jim Casper,” said John Boyle, facility management division.
The plan that the committee and architect chose would create two entrances to the residence with one on the east side and one on the west side.
“It just seems like it’s appropriate if you look out the next 100 years that it shouldn’t just be tied to Fourth Street, but it should be tied to the actual Capitol mall itself,” Boyle said.
Boyle also added that current and former governors will be helping with the design.
“We did have Chris Hawley and his team speak with the families of former governors as well as the current governor, and they have compiled notes on what their take is on living in the house,” Boyle said.
Boyle says that everything is still on track and the build should be completed in late 2017.
If any members of the public would like to voice their opinions, they can at a planning commission meeting which will take place on December 2 at 1 p.m. in the Brynhild Haugland Room of the Capitol.
